Virtual User Accounts

You can give others access to your Virtual Private Server by providing them with virtual user accounts. Virtual user accounts allow configured users to recieve E-mail and to upload files to your Virtual Private Server.

NOTE: the Server A allows only 10 POP E-mail user accounts. The vadduser and vlistuser commands will display a warning when you list or attempt to add more than 10 user accounts on a Server A. This applies only to the Server A.

Creating and Configuring Virtual User Accounts

There are several methods you can use to create and configure virtual user accounts.

  • iManager

iManager Tools and Wizards allow you to use your favorite Web browser to easily create and configure virtual user accounts.

  • Telnet/SSH

You can create and configure virtual user accounts in Telnet or SSH using the vadduser command. Simpy run vadduser at the command prompt and follow the on-screen instructions.

In order to protect the security of your Virtual Private Server, be sure to follow our helpful instructions on Choosing a Password

NOTE: Both Email and FTP services must be enabled in order to properly use IMAP for checking E-mail.

Modifying Virtual User Accounts

We have created several tools for viewing and modifying existing virtual user accounts on your Virtual Private Server. In addition to using iManager, you can use one of the following SSH or Telnet commands.

  • vlistuser - to list all virtual user accounts, simply run vlistuser from your server's command prompt

  • vadduser - You can change a virtual user account's settings using the vadduser command. When prompted for a user to add, simply enter the name of the existing user, and you will be asked if you want to modify the existing user.

  • vpasswd - Use the vpasswd command from your server's command prompt to change user account passwords. When you are typing the password, be aware that your keystrokes will not be displayed on the screen.

Removing Virtual User Accounts

Removing existing virtual user accounts can be done in one of the following ways.

  • iManager

iManager Tools and Wizards allow you to use your own web browser to easily remove user accounts.

  • Telnet/SSH

You can remove user accounts during a Telnet/SSH session with your Virtual Private Server by using the vrmuser command. Simply type vrmuser at the prompt and follow the on-screen instructions.
